1: Laptop Safe overview.

Between 1990 and June 1993 a couple of thousand man hours was invested in the design, material selection, manufacturing techniques and testing of what we originally named mk2 Hide Away Safe. In 1993 after nearly 3 years of research and development the Australia designed and manufactured mk2 Hide Away Safe became available for sale.

The Hide Away Safe designed to be installed in a:

• Residential Home
• Apartment
• Office
• Factory
• Caravan
• Motor Home
• Plus any other type of Vehicle with DIY installation.

Then in early 1995 we read statistics about the increasing theft of laptops being stolen from homes and cars. We looked but there was nothing sold world-wide to specifically secure a Laptop when left unattended in a Vehicle, Residential Home, Office including a Caravan or Motor Home.

So we decided to develop a larger version of the mk2 Hide Away Safe, it took a year to develop it, make the moulds and test. Then early in 1996 it was available for sale.

What did we name it, you guest it we named it Laptop Safe.

Later in 1996 we had enquires for the Laptop Safe but not to secure a Laptop and decided to create another name for it mk3 Hide Away Safe. We use this name when we are marketing it to secure Cash, backed up data (opens in a new window) or any other small valuable items people want to secure in their Home, Vehicle, Caravan or Work Place.

2: What's the difference between mk2 and mk3 Laptop Safe - also known as Hide Away Safe.

Both mk2 Hide Away Safe and mk3 Hide Away Safe:

• Made from the same material Police riot shields are manufactured from Lexan Polycarbonate, Light-Weight, but as Tough as Steel and is Virtually Indestructible.
• Choose between two high security locks: Abloy Classic or Abloy PROTEC
• Fitted to almost any flat surface on any angle, even up side down by first installing a Docking Station then slide the Safe in and lock it with the Abloy Classic Key or Abloy PROTEC Key.
• DIY installation in a House, Apartment, Office, Factory and Vehicle. Anyone who owns a drill and a screw drive / spanner, depends on what type of fasteners are being used, should be able to install the Laptop Safe Docking Station or fitting a Vehicle Fixing Kit in a Vehicle.
• Temporary security for both mk2 and mk3 named Shroud and Cable. Some vehicles cannot have a Vehicle Fixing Kit installed in them for various reasons eg. a hired Car. To over come this we have another High Security Solution that requires no permanent installation to a Vehicle or other temporary locations (such as a motel room) and the Laptop Safe is as secure as in an installed Docking Station or Vehicle Fixing Kit.
• The Laptop Safe lid can also be locked out of its Docking Station. This allows the Laptop Safe to be carried from one location to another without the contents being exposed.

For example:

Slide the Laptop Safe out of the Docking Station in your Residential Home and lock it with the supplied Abloy Classic Key or Abloy PROTEC Key.

Next...

Take the Laptop Safe to another location where you have previously installed a Docking Station eg. in your Vehicle or Office then slide the Laptop Safe in and lock it with the supplied High Security Abloy Key.

The only difference between an mk2 and mk3 is the Dimensions and Weight, the mk3 is five times the size of the mk2.

3: Laptop Safe includes.

• 1 x Docking Station
• 1 x Laptop Safe with convoluted foam glued to the inside of the lid and the Laptop Safe bottom has a Flocked finish, see "what is Flocking" below.
• 2 x removable flocked insert boxes, details below.
  
  Note: The picture that follows shows the two removable insert boxes at the front, they can be removed, by the purchaser and placed at the back.
• Your choice of an Abloy Classic or Abloy PROTEC Lock.
• 1 x Customised Heavy Duty Double Cam
• 2 x Nickel Silver Abloy Classic or Abloy PROTEC keys each pair of keys include their own unique security key code.
• Foldback Handle fitted to the front of the Laptop Safe.

4: Removable insert boxes.

When the Safe Box lid is closed and locked you can carry it like a brief case and any item in the insert boxes will not fall out because the convoluted foam on the lid covers the top of each insert box.

5: What is Flocking.

Flocking is a heavy duty automotive grade velvet/suede finish, used on past Ford LTD range on selected internal fixtures. The flocking is electrostatically fired into a special adhesive resulting in both a hard wearing and protective coating that puts a beautiful finishing touch to selected internal parts of the Hide Away Safe.

7: Laptop Safe dimensions and weight.

NB: The measurements in inches have been rounded off to the closest 0.25". For the exact size use the measurements in mm.

• External dimensions - L:360mm (14.25") W:375mm (14.75") H:150mm (6")
• Internal dimensions - L:310mm (12.25") W:345mm (13.5") H:125mm (5")
• Safe Box weighs approximately 3kg (6.6 pounds) empty. Even though it is Incredibly Light-Weight, it is as Tough as Steel, Virtually Indestructible and another benefit of Lexan is, Lexan does not transfer heat from the outside to the inside of the Safe. Being heat resistant makes it the ultimate Mobile Safe to secure backed up data in any type of Vehicle.

8: The Laptop Safe can be used for multiple purposes.

As you have previously read this High Security Safe is made from Lexan and comes in two parts, the Hide Away Safe and Docking Station that is installed to almost any flat surface on any angle even up side down then, the Hide Away Safe slides into the Docking Station and locked with the world's highest security Abloy Lock.

Lexan being Light-Weight and Virtually Indestructible and the method used to lock the Hide Away Safe in its Docking Station allows you to secure your valuables where you live, work or in any Vehicle.

Please Note: Install two or more Docking Stations allows you to move and secure the Hide Away Safe from one Docking Station to another eg, Home to Car, Car to work place and vice versa.
